How To Eliminate Credit Card Debt
One of the major challenges of being in debt is how to eliminate credit card debt. In many instances, the "how to" can be found in looking at the why's - why does credit card debt occur in the first place. By looking at this we can very often determine a solution by often doing the opposite to the why. I guess in accounts, this will be called "reversal of entries".
Someone may accumulate debt as a result of bad of no budgeting practices or because of a lack on discipline with their spending. Someone may also amass a credit card debt because of accident of illness and the unplanned expenses that may be associated with this. Someone may also have their credit card debts pile up on them due to late or missed payments. One thing's for sure is that regardless of the reason, debt is a major headache and one that you can really ill-afford. You must therefore look at ways to eliminate this debt. As long as we are completely honest with ourselves in identifying the reasons, then we are of to a great start.

Sad to say, I have encountered and continue to meet countless people who do not see the need to budget - particularly as a means to eliminate credit card debt. Some are just too lazy to or they lack the discipline to stick to their budget. Budgeting is an everyday tool used by normal people to manage their expenditure against their income. It looks at what income you earn and matches it with your expenses, and hopefully you will have a surplus - on the income side.
Your budgeting should also focus on saving some portion of your monthly income. In working out your budget, list all your income, then net this off with your expenses - the fixed ones such as loans and insurance first, and then those that tend to vary from month to month such as your utility bills and your entertainment expenses.
To legally eliminate credit card debt, identify all the creditors that you are indebted to and cater for the minimum payment amounts in your budget. Once you have created your budget, you must stick to it. Set up automated payment systems to pay your creditors. By doing this, you would have taken the problem of late payment or having to remember to make the payments out of the equation. That is one problem less to worry about and one positive step to help you eliminate your credit card debt.
Identify all of your creditors and list them from the least minimum payment to the highest. Then place yourself in a program to repay them one by one in the order you have listed them. If your problem of indebtedness came about because of bad or an uncontrollable spending habits, then I recommend that you do what a good friend did recently when faced with the problem of indebtedness. He took a really strong scissors and cut up all of his credit cards - all six of them. Keep in mind that debit cards may be a more effective payment tool at this stage than credit cards.
On the road to a healthier financial future and to eliminate credit card debt, it is important to recognise the difference between our wants and our needs. Very often when I go to the supermarket of department store, when I pick up items for purchase, I constantly ask myself, "do I need this of is it a 'nice-to-have'?" If it is a 'nice-to-have' then I put it right back on the shelf and walk away. This is a principle we all must adopt in our spending.
Now depending on how serious your debt is, you may have to take drastic measures and dig into your entertainment expenses as a means of repaying you debt. This will be like reprimanding yourself for lacking discipline with your spending.
One of the things I have found over time is that the extent of your indebtedness is a direct consequence of how well you budget. So if you really want credit card debt elimination to take place, then you must budget and budget well. One of the strong recommendations in budgeting is to put aside some part of your monthly income in a savings account. By putting aside some for a rainy day, you are better able to deal with the financial obligations of illness and accident.
Depending on the severity of your indebtedness, bankruptcy may be a option to eliminate credit card debt. I strongly recommend that this be the absolute last option. You should seek financial counseling before making this decision.
